Hi All
Just wanted to let you know that Marley Grace was born Saturday morning (20th) at 1.30am.
She weighed in at 7 pounds 4 oz. Mum and daughter are doing great and will be home from hospital tomorrow.

Everything is going really well over here. My knee is going great and I have been riding my jump skis for the last month. I am really pleased with its progress and if it wasn't for my big belly would be getting right back into it by now. The extra rest will be great for it, and give it plenty of time get back to 100%. I am enjoying being pregnant and looking forward to the big day. Only 12 weeks to go, which I imagine will go pretty quickly as we have been busy running ski school for the last two months and have a month to go before we take a break. Thankyou to everyone who is keeping in touch and interested in my progress. I am looking forward to watching the year progress and being right back in there by the end of this season or the start of the next. Good luck to everyone.

Hey,
Things are pretty much back to normal now.The full list of injuries was:
Fractured collar bone
7 fractures of 5 ribs
Punctured right lung
Fractured the head of my fibula (small bone in lower leg)
Total Bill - $28,000 USD (Thank god for travel insurance!)
It was pretty sore for a while and I managed to re-fracture my collar bone in October mountain biking! No x-ray shots unfortunately, they were all left in the hospital in NY.
As far as skiing this season, I have not really had much motivation to the point of not even putting on a binding since I was in NY. I can't see myself getting back into it again, just too hard to jump far when you are only doing it part time and going 170-180 and getting my ass kicked by the juniors isn't enough fun anymore.
I have been getting into some multi-sport events over summer with heaps of riding, running and kayaking which has been fun. I have my first big race tomorrow, 35km kayak, 60km MTB, 22km Mt Run. Should take between 8-9 hours.
Cheers Luke Longney
Our little baby boy is due the end of June.
All is well. I go Friday for my 5 and 1/2 month check-up.
I will probably have to have a C-section again which means I'll probably start skiing around the first of August. I feel great, except I am getting big fast!
Update : Eric Marberg
He is returning from Europe in April to start back skiing full time. He will be back running 11m
(38 off) and jumping over 60m (200'). By the end of July.
Scot Ellis
Back from 3rd hip dislocation. These things are a piece of cake these days.
I have a full release from my Dr to start skiing.
Right now I am getting ready for the Masters and working on coming out with a new set of D3 jumpers !!

Ed Brazil
Presumably the picture from Verno is the one showing the 30 staples and 7 inch incision? Wonder if Reef Brazil would be interested? Still not quite up to the level of Jack Hanna.
I am going to the Doc. tomorrow AM for a follow-up visit, and I'll write up a bit on how things are shortly after that. He will probably OK me to go back to work,at least the desk job part of it (not on the snow) at the ski area. Actually, I've been 'visiting' them since Saturday. Also started to drive on Saturday. The hip booklet suggests 4 to 6 weeks, so 8 days after the operation to drive is pushing the pace....but I'm doing OK.
Originally, I've been getting around the house with a walker. EZ house to get a round in, with no stairs between bedroom, bath, living room, kitchen, and computer station. Now getting around more with one crutch like a cane. I
can even walk for short distances in safe situations without a crutch.
As soon as I got home 4 days after the operation, the hip felt better than it did when I left, from a standpoint of putting weight on it. Still some soreness related to the incision site and muscles getting reawakened. I was on Percocet for a week after returning home; now trying to get by with Tylenol, Asprin, and Ibuprofin. But, I'll put together something in a day or so for publication if you want. Got the preliminary bill from the hospital yesterday: around $30,000. But, I think my hoze-insurance will pay some of that. Largest item was nearly $15,000 for the implant itself. Guess I shoulda had Bemman machine one up.

Sandy Schraft
Sandy had a complete knee replacement on her left knee on November 19th.
She is still doing rehab, but she is walking almost normal.
She just got back from Kansas City, so she is flying with it too.
My injury occurred in practice the day before I flew to the Malibu open. I was having a little dig and ended up doing the splits on the ramp, tearing the cartilage in my left hip. I didn't know at the time, I just thought I had wrenched myself really bad and so I didn't get a scan until after the French Masters. It was so weird, I just lost all my balance, couldn't cut, landings hurt and the physio was scratching her head. Finally after the French Masters our team physio took a look and advised an MRI which showed soft tissue damage. I had keyhole surgery on the 8th Sept in Cambridge, England, the tear was fixed with laser and the rest of the joint was tidied up.
Cannot wait to start skiing again, just need to get a bit stronger in my leg, its really in a pathetic state right now. What sort of stuff did you do in the gym to get back strong?? Very curious, as over here they seem quite afraid to work you too much, Im wondering if they are being too cautious.

9/9/04 Scot Ellis
Scot went out today and took a few ride overs at 51/2'.
He said everything felt good and will progress to 6' in a few days.
It looks like his first tournament will be the World Cup event in China in October a week before the US Open.
Kiwi has suffered bruised ribs and cartilage, torn intercostal muscles (between the ribs), pulled abdominal muscle. He will be back by China and the US Open.
Just rehab here in Cali. Ankle is improving slow, and I've only skied one real set since Aug. 30 when I smashed it
up. Still planning on making a go of China...but want to play it smart and make the Open too. Definitely not 100%....yet!!
" the ankle: I pretty much have no ligaments left on the outside of my front foot (hence the pre-ski tape job) and wasn't skiing smart here in practice on the river. I came into 3 buoy at 38 and tried to power through the turn with my body over the ski, instead of staying back and riding the tail, and the tip caught. My Ski Technique release mechanism exploded (the heal piece) and my tape job was completely ripped as well. I had x-rays done yesterday at a local hospital that looked like an Atomic Bomb had gone off inside just hours before I arrived...it was ridiculous! They couldn't see any breaks, but I know I've damaged the outside ligaments as well as possibly the deltoid ligament on the inside of the ankle. Sucks, but hopefully I'll be back for the U.S. Open...and a few record tourneys at the end of the season to make top 6 on IWSF rankings for worlds next year. Today is the first day I've limped around without crutches...I hate those F#$%ing things!"
Kristi Overton Johnson
“Kristi Overton Johnson is home recovering from her second of three hip surgeries this year. Kristi was born with a hip disorder which resulted in her hip sockets never developing. At 15 she discovered the condition and has known the surgeries were inevitable. Through Dr. Mark Aiken, Kristi was referred to a doctor in Boston who specializes in the reconstructing of the pelvis to create a natural hip socket as opposed to a hip replacement. Although the two over 8 hours surgeries she has had so far were tough, resulting in 5 blood transfusions and over 20 days in the hospital, Kristi is looking forward to being off the crutches in October and starting a rehab program once the hardware is removed in December. When asked if Kristi is calling it quits on the water, she replies, “I don’t know if or when I will be back on the water. I know it will be almost a year before I can get on the skis. But I do hope to be back on the water…whether it is on tour, skiing in exhibitions, or just out with my family, I’ll just be happy to start pushing myself physically again and feeling the water under my feet!”

Hip injury forces Jesper Cassoe to retire
This year skiers, organisers and fans might have been asking themselves “where is Jesper Cassoe?”.
The 2003 Moomba Masters winner and the current European champion and jump record holder has been kept of the water because of a serious hip injury. Now the 27-year-old Danish jumper has pulled the breaks and made up his mind: Cassoe retires because of the injury!
“I have been fighting since last October to get back on the water. Physically I am back to full strength after the surgery in the beginning of May. However, the pain that I had prior to the operation is still there and the long term risks by continuing to jump are simply too high. Therefore I have decided to make the biggest decision of my life and let go. Right now, of course, it feels strange but I am looking forward to moving on into the world outside skiing”, says Jesper Cassoe.
“I am working on a few projects back home and hopefully they will pull through. I am trying hard to build a cable park for wakeboarding and skiing just outside Copenhagen and things are looking great as of now. Also, I have signed up for school again and will begin studying economics and psychology in September”.
Jesper Cassoe was hoping to follow up on a great 2003-season by trying to defend the Moomba Masters and European jump titles. But the seriousness of the hip injury has forced Cassoe to look further down the road and think of his future wellness.

Scot,
Hey mate, well here it all is...It's not great but it could be worse as far as the docs said
The shoulder surgeon would not fix my shoulder unless the hip surgeon gave me the go ahead to ski again which he has done eventually. So, for the shoulder i need another reconstruction which is a 6 month lay off so next season is out basically. They have to fix the capsule and fix one end of the tendon he already fixed. If i was not going to ski again they would not fix it and I could rehab it and have a boring life I guess.
Ok, so the hip now. I tore a tendon, have a bucket handle tear in the cartilege, a massive bone spur of arthritis they are going to need to grind off and a bunch of bones floating around in the joint. They are saying that because there is so much wrong its worth going in. If it was only one of these they would not worry. So I have a 3 weeks on crutches for that one and im not sure the recovery preiod for that one. They won't give me a clearance for 2 years because they are scared that with my arthritis and everything that my femur may start dying because of a loss of blood supply which would mean a hip replacement.
Anyway, that's the news I guess sorry it's so long winded. I hope everything is going good for you mate. Spank some big ones at mccormicks if youre skiing them. I guess i'll have to just stick to your rehab program you sent me a few weeks ago hahaha.
See ya, Dane
